Pumpkin Patch

With Halloween coming up, I wanted to share more about our time at the pumpkin patch (see "Fall Activities with the Family" for more!)

In Alberta, you have to go to the pumpkin patch early, like I’m talking late August or early September, before the frost comes!

This year, I went to the patch with my two sisters and my little girl (her first time!). We had to pre-book tickets and the only time available was 5:30pm. This was going to be pushing my little one’s bedtime and I knew it. We would be at the patch for a little while and then have to drive back to my sister’s place, which was about a half hour drive from the patch.

Sure enough, we get to the patch and it is pouring rain, so we have to wait out the rain. As we’re waiting, my little one needs a diaper change, so I have to change her in the vehicle, which, as she keeps getting older and bigger, is becoming more challenging! Finally the rain stops and it’s now about 6:00pm before we get into the pumpkin patch.

Of course we have to stop and get some cute photos for my little one’s first time! I made sure to get the photos first because I knew that if we waited until after picking our pumpkins that there would be no hope left for photos.

Minutes after we get into the patch, my girl starts fussing (it’s now close to 6:15pm which is normal for her to be fussy at this time). One sister is pushing the empty stroller while I carry my girl through the patch. I quickly pick out a few pumpkins, then tell my sisters I’m heading back to the car. Of course on my way back to the car, she seems to settle down a bit, so I just wait at the edge of the patch for my sisters until she starts fussing again. Now, my one sister takes her sweet time with everything 😂, so I march back in there and remind her that she needs to hurry up because baby is very fussy at this point and it’s past her usual bedtime.

I go back to the car and wait for them, trying to feed baby to help calm her. After what seems like forever, they finally come and we are ready to go on the half hour drive back to my sister’s place. As soon as we get there, I get my girl ready for bed after an exciting time!

This just goes to show that of course nothing goes to plan (ever, but especially with a baby!), and that’s okay!

Remember, mama, even though your outings with baby won’t go as planned and they might cry or get fussy, you are doing an amazing job.
